The Oxford Movement was an important reform movement in the Church of England. Its representatives were convinced that the "Catholic" roots of the Church of England needed to be re-emphasized. Christian Koch examines the writings of the movement and shows how the will for ecclesiastical renewal and historiography intertwine.

In this work, Christian Koch deals historically with the Oxford Movement, a phenomenon of the history of the Anglican church during the 19th century. He examines how the transformations of the Victorian era led to debates about the identity of the Church of England and how these discourses in turn affected the way the Oxford Movement adapted the historiographical conventions of Anglicanism.
