Heinrich's von Mügeln "Der meide Kranz" is considered to be an exceptionally learned work for a text written in the vernacular. This study shows how the reception of literary tradition, in particular the poetic works of Alanus ab Insulis, determines not just the content, but also the poetics of the text. A comparative analysis examines and contrasts the motifs and bodies of knowledge in their own discursive contexts.
