This volume examines Aristotle's Nous Poitikos with the goal of shedding light on the prerequisites of thinking, the structure of the process of thinking, and the function and identity of the active nous. On the one hand, it inquires into the ontological status of the nous, which is connected to the question of the human soul's immortality. On the other hand, it explains how the active nous brings about thinking in humans.
