Not everything that glitters is gold often it is silver: chased, polished, enamelled, hallmarked, and even gilded. These contributions address the semantic, economic, and technical dimensions of artistic silverwork, drawing on a wide range of object types and sources. International experts in art history, history, and linguistics present current research findings on the production, trading, translocation, and social significance of silver objects, illustrating their development over time. Current issues of looting and restitution are addressed as well.
