Schleiermacher's translation was initiated by F. Schlegel as a joint project, but it was worked out by Schleiermacher alone. The critical edition presents the texts of the first and second edition (with general introduction and introductions to the dialogues, notes and the Greek textual basis) as well as the handwritten drafts and preliminary notes, which in part go back to the (unpublished) work already carried out together with Schlegel (1801).
