In both versions of Sladek, Horváth deals with the problem of nationalist secret societies in the Weimar Republic. In Italian Night he stages the conflicts between Social Democrats and fascists in a Bavarian town. This edition provides an accurate reconstruction of the historical origins and carefully verified end versions based on the original typed manuscript or first printing.
