This volume contains 27 articles on the Corpus Iohanneum. These articles focus on the prologue, the description of how the Word entered the world, the narrative and theological concept of the Gospel and its redactional adjustments as well as on 1 John as its oldest "commentary." The early church saw the Gospel as the chief witness to the trinitarian doctrine. Its "high Christology", which saw Jesus not only as Israel's Messiah but moreover as the Son of God sent from heaven, does however seem to be inextricably combined with its harsh polemic against "the Jews", which helped to develop its own identity. Der Band vereinigt 27 Beiträge zum Corpus Iohanneum. Die thematischen Schwerpunkte liegen auf dem Johannesprolog, den im Evangelium rezipierten "Herrenworten", der narrativen und theologischen Konzeption des Buchs und seiner redaktionellen Fortschreibung sowie auf dem 1. Johannesbrief als seinem ältesten "Kommentar". Die alte Kirche sah im Evangelium den Kronzeugen ihres trinitarischen Bekenntnisses. Seine "hohe" Christologie, die Jesus nicht nur als Messias Israels, sondern vielmehr als den vom Himmel stammenden Sohn Gottes begreift, scheint aber mit seiner harschen Polemik gegen "die Juden", die der Ausbildung der eigenen Identität dient, untrennbar verquickt zu sein. Ist der christliche "Antijudaismus" also auch ein Erbe des johanneischen Jesus-Bildes, das ihn als Fremden in Israel zeichnet? Michael Theobald zeigt, dass ein hermeneutisch verantworteter Umgang mit dem Evangelium heute nur auf dem Boden seiner geschichtlichen Kontextualisierung möglich ist.
