For some 800 years, the statue of the personification of Antioch was of significance for this city as the capital of the dynasty of the Seleucidae. Erected in the early 3rd century BC, its features combined the traditional and the innovative, and the abstract with the graphic. Marion Meyer demonstrates how numerous copies and reproductions attest to the continued relevance of the statue itself and to the success of the creation of the image, which was adopted for other cities.
