The Chronicle of the Margraves of Brandenburg, translated here for the first time, was written in Latin at the end of the 13th century. It is the third known narrative source from medieval Brandenburg, following the Tractatus de urbe Brandenburg, which was composed between 1170 and 1180, and a Chronicle of the Bishops of Brandenburg from shortly before 1240. The original manuscript of the Chronicle of the Margraves of Brandenburg has been lost; however, copies exist in the city archive of Goslar and the city library of Trier, both of which were made in the 14th century. The reproductions of these manuscripts are published here with the kind permission of both institutions. The basis for this translation is Georg Sello's edition of the Chronicle of the Margraves of Brandenburg, published in Research on Brandenburg and Prussian History, Volume 1 (1888)
