Creation is a central theme in Mesopotamian texts. In which contexts were creation texts employed? Using clearly situated sources, the author develops a methodological process for answering this question. Ten famous creation texts are examined in terms of their performance and meaning in Mesopotamian religious practice, thus providing insights into the ritual use of myth.
