How did aristocratic landowners in Brandenburg respond to plans for a constitution for the Prussian monarchy at the beginning of the 19th century? Historians have assumed until now that they contested such plans from the outset. Karsten Holste's study reveals that the political position of the aristocrats was not inherently anti-constitutional.
