The history of the Kraichgau a region between the Black Forest and the Forest of Odes was greatly influenced by the Kraichgau Knights. This applies to almost all of the important sectors: the territorial development and the confessional split in the wake of the Reformation as well as cultural development. The leaning towards a cooperative union was of particular interest this constituted the Kraichgau Knight canton. These efforts were in a constant conflict with the simultaneous longing for independence. This volume is a collection of talks held in Bretten in 1990 to which further contributions have been added.
