The volume focuses on the work of 19 th and 20 th century Jewish interpreters and translators of the Bible. It examines their work in the context of the emergence of historical-critical biblical scholarship and evaluates their influence on aspects of Jewish education. The study raises questions about philosophical perspectives and specific areas of concern for Jewish scholars that went beyond those of predominantly Protestant biblical scholarship.
