Healthcare services cannot be provided without qualified specialists. In order to solve potential shortages of skilled labour, they must be recognised at an early stage. This requires detailed long-term monitoring of (labour) supply and demand in the healthcare professions (BMG skilled worker monitoring). This report sets out the projection and scenario options that are possible with the data sources available in Germany: Developments can be reliably predicted for around 55 healthcare professions (including 16 medical professions) differentiated in each case according to the facility types 'inpatient', outpatient and 'other'. A projection approach is proposed that can be embedded in the existing projection concept of qualification and occupational projections (www.QuBe-Projekt.de). It makes it possible to estimate the impact of measures and is able to identify policy options.
