CLAIRE GAROUTTE arbeitet seit vielen Jahren mit Fotografie, um ihre Faszination für verschiedene Sub­kulturen der Gesellschaft auszudrücken. In ihrer ersten Soloausstellung in den USA, im Frye art Museum, Seattle, beschäftigte sie sich mit dem Lebensstil städtischer Straßenpunks und Ausreißer. Später war sie lange in Kuba unterwegs, um Ausübende von Santeria, einer Afro-Cubanischen Religion, zu fotografieren. Heute lebt Claire Garoutte in Seattle, Washington, als dokumentarische Fotografin und Professorin für Fotografie der Fakultät Art and Art History an der University Seattle. Sie machte ihren S.A. an der Willamette Universität in Salem, Oregon und ihren M.F.A. in Fotografie an der University of Washing­ton in Seattle. Ihre Arbeiten wurden in zahlreichen Galerien und Museen international ausgestellt.
