This volume encompasses all of the currently known letters written by Goethe in the years 1799 and 1800, comprising 367 letters from his personal correspondence addressed to a total of 80 recipients, including Friedrich Schiller, Christiane Vulpius, Johann Heinrich Meyer, Johann Friedrich Cotta, Carl Ludwig von Knebel, Wilhelm von Humboldt, and August Wilhelm Schlegel. They are supplemented by 62 official letters and 41 additional concepts.
