In two weathering profiles on pyroclastic material several phases of volcanic activity were found. By means of different methods of investigation (microscopy, SEM and microprobe, X -ray, chemical analyses, determination of absolute ages) distinct eruption cycles could be based on various primary minerals and the secondary minerals fo~med by weathering processes were defined. Halloysite (in 10 A..- and. 7 A-modification) is the predominant clay mineral of all sequences. The paragenesis gibbsite, anatase, ilmenite is characteristic for the horizons of most intense weathering. Absolute age hitherto determined (K-Ar-method on potash-felspars) yield values for the maximal age of the parent material in both profiles only. Hence it is not possible that they are older than oldest pleistocene. KURZFASSUNG In zwei uber pyroklastischen Serien entstandenen Verwitterungsprofilen konnten mehrere Phasen der vulkanischen Tatigkeit festgestellt werden. Aufgrund verschie denster Untersuchungsmethoden (Lichtmikroskopie, Rasterelektronenmikroskopie mit Mikrosonde, R6ntgendiffraktometrie, chemische Analysen, absolute Altersbestim mungen) wurde einerseits anhand unterschiedlicher Primarminerale eine Reihe von Eruptionszyklen aufgestellt, andererseits die bei der Verwitterung entstandenen Um und Neubildungen bestimmt. Dabei wurde als stets vorherrschendes Tonmineral Halloysit (in 10 A..- und in 7 A-Modifikation) gefunden und in den Horizonten der starkstausgebildeten Verwitterung die Mineralparagenese Gibbsit, Anatas, Ilmenit.
