Arthur Schnitzler's story A Farewell develops a range of motifs around adultery and jealousy until the ultimate separation of the lovers through death. This text follows the first edition (1896) and includes a commentary. In addition, it reproduces facsimiles of all extant manuscripts from the literary legacy with transcriptions, thereby enabling for the first time complete insight into the genesis of the text.
