Swahili is a highly agglutinating and mostly prefixing language with SVO structure. It shows strong relations between morphology and syntax. In this essay I will discuss the features of Swahili (also known as Kiswahili). The language is widespread in South Africa and still gaining importance. Apart from some more general information about geographical and historical facts I will discuss the three traditional points of view one can apply to a language: Phonology (and some phonetic concepts) and morphology and syntax.
