Status and Problems of Woman Labourers in Rural Punjab: A Field Survey

This book is the outcome of an in-depth study of the socio-economic status of woman labourers and various problems faced by them in the rural areas of Punjab (India). Based on the primary data, the study reveals that the woman labourers undertake the work only under economic compulsions. Because of unhygienic living and working conditions, majority of them are suffering from some serious diseases. Besides of this, they face a lot of problems at the workplace and on the domestic front. All this make their situation more miserable. The policy implications of this book will help in improving their economic conditions and solve some of their problems. The book will be immensely useful to the policy-makers, researchers, demographers, labour administrators, sociologists, woman activists and even to the general readers.

Dr. Dharampal is Assistant Professor in Economics at GGDSD College, Kheri Gurna, Banur, Punjab (India). He has teaching and research experience of more than 10 years. Dr. Pal has authored more than a dozen of research papers published in national and international reputed journals on issues of small peasantry, woman labourers and rural development.
