Excerpt from The Mexican National Railway: Palmer-Sullivan Concession

Its population in 1876 was and is now something greater. It is, therefore, a little more populous than the two kingdoms of Belgium and Holland. Or, to seek another European illustration, it is nearly equal to the combined populations of Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Bulgaria.

It is this magnificent domain (as yet, substantially, virgin as a railway field) which The Mexican National Railway is entering from the United States, and simultaneously building northward and westward from the central capital' of Mexico. And at Manzanillo eastward from the Pacific Coast.
