Aaron McAlexander retired from teaching physics and astronomy several years ago so that he could spend more time in the land where he grew up, the mountains of Southwestern Virginia. Collections of short stories he has written about the people of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia are: The Last One Leaving Mayberry, So Much to Learn, This Old Store, and his most recent book, Greasy Bend.

Greasy Bend is a collection of historical short stories about people and places along a segment of U.S. Highway 58 that passes through the mountains of Southwest Virginia. The highway through the section of the road near its intersection with the Blue Ridge Parkway is called Lovers Leap Mountain, and it is an especially beautiful but challenging drive. These stories surely will make the reader want to visit that part of the Blue Ridge.
