The story begins in 198 AD in a Mayan city of the Yucatan Peninsula. Chuwen, a young Mayan boy and his father Kawak, witness a strange celestial event. With the help of a strange visitor, they uncover the shocking truth behind the behaviour of their High Priest, Ahaw, and the sinister evil presence controlling him.

Nearly two thousand years later, an ageing rogue FBI agent Derek Baxter is drawn to Mexico to investigate the disappearance of Rachel Williams, a beautiful young Archaeologist whose past is somehow linked to the ancient Mayans.
