When Blaine is asked to help her mother's best friend Jody, to build a web site, Blaine sets up a time that is convenient for each of them and schedule the date. When Jody and Blaine tell her mother, her mother tells them to only work on the web site, no trips to the garden, which confused Blaine.

On the appointed day and time Blaine showed up, and the two women began work almost immediately. As they were working on it, Blaine asked Jody about her mom's comment about staying out of the garden. Jody laughed and explained to Blaine what it meant and took her out to see her specially built enclosed space in her yard for sunbathing.

Jody explained it was a place where she could lie out in the sun and not have to worry about nosy neighbors watch her in her bikini while out there. She went on to explain that on occasion she would tan all over to avoid ugly tan lines. For helping Jody with her web site, she asked Blaine if she would like to come over and try it out when the weather turned warmer. Sounding harmless Blaine eagerly agreed.

Her parents, George Bertrand Christian, an attorney who once aspired to be an actor, and Frances Hollowell insisted that Candice and her sister Simone, be sent to a Catholic school. Candice was deeply religious as a child, at one point thought of becoming a nun.
